My Testimony – How I found Christ and was saved!

“…I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
After I completed high school, I was in and out of dangerous and abusive relationships. I was accepted into college and dropped out because drugs became more important to me. I got married in 1998, and was married for 7 years to a very abusive husband. I ended up leaving him for the safety of my son. I also got messed up in another relationship, and had my daughter in 2003. This man also left us, and I began to try and raise two “out of control” kids on my own. I continued to live my life the way I wanted to - on the edge - and once again ended up with a baby boy in 2007. I knew I had to do something… I was now a single mother of three, and struggling to take care of them.
One day, I was reading the Custer Chronicle when my oldest two children saw an advertisement for this Baptist Church’s Vacation Bible School. It was scheduled for the first week in June of 2008. The kids begged me to let them go. So, I called the phone number and signed them up for the week. They had the most fun ever, in their life! …For that week, at least, they were happy…
Things began to fall back into our old ways, but the kids would continue to ask, “why don’t we go to church?” I always would make up some excuse. I was scared… and I felt I would never “fit in” at any church.
In July of 2008, I decided we would go and hear what they had to say. We attended every Sunday for 6 weeks, and I listened to what they had to say. I began to realize that even I could be loved by Jesus Christ and could spend eternity with him. On August 17, 2008, I asked the Lord to be my Savior at the church picnic table, with my friend, Wilma. I was so happy all I could do was cry! I was going to heaven, and I could now see that I had Someone Who wanted to help me to do right, on a daily basis.
My family continued to attend church. In October, my daughter was saved and then in November, my son was led to the Lord. We have given all to the Lord. He has helped me in raising my children, and their behaviors have improved. I was accepted to the USD Nursing Program in Rapid City, and the grace of God has provided me the financial means and support to attend classes. Since we have opened our hearts and let the Lord in to do his work, our lives have been given a purpose. We will continue to serve the Lord with the hopes that one day he will send us to be Missionaries across the world.
“Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him.” (Psalm 91:14-15)
